An update to RadioPublic for Android version 1.3.29
Hi there! We didn’t just slap a new coat of paint on this update to RadioPublic for Android, it’s an entire structural home makeover for how we display podcasts in the app. We gutted everything, ripped down walls and put everything back together again. Why? We wanted to help you by answering the following questions…
Where should I start?
Some podcasts have hundreds of episodes and it can be overwhelming for a new listener to know where to start. So we created “gateway episodes” — these are episodes the creator of the podcast thought would be a good place for you to start. It may be the most recent episode, but there are often gems farther back you really don’t want to miss. If you’re a podcaster you can add your gateway episodes too!
When do new episodes come out?
Most of the big, popular podcasts publish new episodes on a regular schedule and so do many of the indies, but it can be really helpful to know if you’re about to get into a show producing 2 hours every day or if it’s podcast publishing an episode every few weeks. We give you an estimate of how frequently the podcast is adding episodes.
How many episodes?
So a friend told you about a great new podcast. Is it something you can binge on and finish over a long weekend like S-Town or are you in this for the long haul, and need to commit way more time? We give you a quick indicator of how many episodes are available for each podcast. Block off that calendar for some listening.
Are they still creating new episodes?
Podcasts come and go, just like TV shows, some like Tim Ferris, or 99% Invisible, This American Life and This Week In Tech have been publishing new episodes for years with no signs of slowing down. But there are some gems that had a shorter run and aren’t publishing any longer like Mystery Show. It can be helpful to know if you’re going to get new episodes or not. Up top we now show you when the most recent episode was published.
Anyway… there is more to come. Super excited for some of the other stuff we’re working on to show up in the app soon. If you have questions, comments or thoughts do please let me know. I can respond here or help@radiopublic.com.
Stay tuned!
